After Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1978) lithograph, “Dove of Peace” which was adopted as the emblem* to represent the World Peace Congress in Paris 1949, depicting the dove profile with a branch in his mouth in mid flight, set against a blank background. Printed in lower left lifespan of Picasso opposite from title of work. Displayed beneath glass in a gilt & beaded frame. Ready to hang!

*The original was a drawing executed on a poster in 1949. A few years after the Second World War and in full creation of the Stalinist regimes in Eastern Europe, a World Congress of supporters of peace organized by the World Movement of supporters of peace is at the Salle Pleyel in Paris . Picasso was then a member of the Communist Party , like many intellectuals. In January 1949, the Communist Party, intent on peace alongside Christians and freethinkers, asked Picasso to design a poster symbolizing the Peace Movement. Meanwhile, the Soviet Union is preparing its first nuclear test August 29, 1949.

Condition: In overall good condition with expected signs of age and wear including minor marks to frame, some residue to glass, but in all does not detract from the piece’s appearance.
