Marc Chagall, Vitraux Pour Jerusalem – The Tribe of Levi is an original vintage lithograph poster from 1961. This poster was created for the exhibition of stain-glass windows, “The Twelve Tribes of Israel,” at the Palace of the Louvre in Paris. Published by the Editions of the National Museums, Paris. Printed by Mourlot, Paris. This poster was opened and found to be complete and folded as shown.
Also, Tribe of Benjamin, Windows for Jerusalem. Lower left Ch. Sorlier Gray. Litho. Signed as part of print lower right. This poster was not opened and assumed to be folded as well during the framing process.
Both presented in gilt wood frames with conforming mats and glazed.
It was standard archival framing practice during that era to fold under the text portion of a poster to fit a standard frame or to isolate the art imagery, rather than cutting it. Since there is no permanent crease line, the paper remains structurally intact, preserving its integrity.
Dimensions:
Arched sight - 24" x 18 1/2"
Frame - 25 1/8" W, 32 1/4" H, 1" D
Condition: one of the posters was opened to confirm that the poster was not cut. Both posters in good condition with no fold marks. One poster with penciled framer's notes at bottom. The frames showing minor nicks and wear.
