After Marc Chagall (Russian-French, 1887-1985) lithograph, “The Three Candles” (1938) modernist post-impressionist style depicted along a vertical composition featuring a couple floating and shielding each other, above a village with three candles and angels playing music and a jester below with people, one holding a candle as well. Vivid greens and reds. Meant to symbolize his feelings during WWII, having worked in Germany, France, and Russia and of the Jewish faith. He was also painting in the midst of the Orphic movement of art. Considered to be his masterpiece from this period. Displayed beneath glass with an army green mat and gilt frame accented with a coiled trim. Ready to hang!
Condition: In overall good condition with expected signs of age and wear including a minor spot of discoloration towards the bottom of the frame and some dust but otherwise in really lovely shape. Wired el verso.
