Item Description
A towering and stunning late 18th to early 19th century George III tall case clock - James Simpson of Lincoln - showcasing a beautiful case top, featuring a lovely scrolled and carved top that is accompanied by three circular finials, one of which hoists a soaring cast iron bald eagle finial atop it. The case displays swinging arched door with a glass front which displays the clock dial, which features a lovely painted seaside image of a a colonial ship and castle at its top, and painted images of women in various poses surrounding the dial.
The case is mounted on a rectangular column which features a shaped hinge door with a centralized shell inlay motif, which opens to reveal the inner pendulum and clock weights, and is mounted on a shaped and raised platform. Clock maker marked on dial, James Simpson of Lincoln.
Condition: Overall in good condition with expected signs of use given its age, including some checking and loss to the veneer, as indicated in photography. Not tested, unknown working condition.
