Item Description
A fantastic painted early 19th century rocking chair. Circa 1820. With ball finials above a four horizontally slatted back that leads down the original rush seat flanked by two narrow cylindrical arms. The splats decorated with gilt stenciling in the manner of Lambert Hitchcock. Raised on straight incised legs with a box stretcher support.
Good condition with some unraveling to rush seat. Remnants of various past paints giving the chair a uniquely finished appearance. Some areas of checking and minor period losses. A perfect nod to old country livin'.
