From the original Watercolor Circa 1890 with title and “Painted by A.C. Howland” along the bottom border. Signed in the print bottom left corner. Housed in a deep stained wood frame with fine graining with light Tan mat.
The Yale Fence was a legendary wooden rail fence on the Yale College campus that served as the primary social center for students between 1833 and the late 19th century. Acting as an equalizer, it fostered a famous "manly democracy" where students gathered for idle chatter and camaraderie.As the campus expanded and new buildings were constructed, the fence was gradually removed, with its final pieces taken down in 1888. Today, an architectural relief of the original fence is mounted on the College Street side of Bingham Hall, and a replica stands on the interior courtyard of Old Campus. Additionally, the university's "Fence Club" (originally Psi Upsilon) continues to honor the name.

Condition: Please see detail photos. Signs of age include some rippling to the paper with a few creases on the left side as well as a few nicks and impressions to the frame which do not detract from the fine Antique Historical presentation.
