John Lothrop Motley's "History of the United Netherlands" is a celebrated historical series originally published in four volumes between 1860 and 1867. It serves as a sequel to his famous work, The Rise of the Dutch Republic, and chronicles the struggle for independence from Spanish rule between 1584 and 1609. Published dates 1866, 1870 and 1871.
