Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (Japanese 1839-1892) "Cooling Off at Shijo" woodblock print from 100 Views of the Moon, 1885. The artwork depicts a maiden on a dock with her foot cooling off in the waters, having pulled her elaborate kimono up as to not get it wet in the water. The moon appears full, overhead in the upper right quadrant.
Calligraphic passages to the upper right, with a red ink seal chop mark and black calligraphic figures to the lower left.
Presented custom matted and framed in a carved, faux bamboo form gilt finished frame and glazed with plexi.

About the Artist:
Tsukioka Yoshitoshi was a prolific Japanese artist known as a major master of woodblock prints. He was born to a merchant family and studied under Utagawa Kuniyoshi and Kikuchi Yōsai, publishing his first work at 14 years old. In the 1870's he worked illustrating newspapers. Yoshitoshi's series were met with great success, and he produced over 2,000 color prints throughout his career.

Slight foxing and browning to the trim edges around the print in spots. Minor nics to the gilt finish but overall in good form and presents well.
