Estimate: $200 - $300
Set of ten Herend Hungary hand-painted porcelain tea cups with matching saucers, each executed in the Rothschild Bird (RO) pattern with 24K gold trim. Every cup and saucer displays Herend’s signature osier (basketweave) molded border and gently scalloped rim. The exteriors are richly decorated with the Rothschild Bird motif — pairs of finely detailed songbirds perched on delicate tree branches, surrounded by colorful butterflies, beetles, and insects rendered in luminous enamel tones of blue, green, orange, pink, and yellow.
The interiors of the cups also feature scattered butterflies and insects, while the rims, handles, and footrings are elegantly edged in hand-applied gilding. All pieces bear the Herend Hungary blue shield hallmark, HANDPAINTED, and pattern numbers 734/RO (saucers) and 734-67/RO (cups)
Dimensions: 4 1/8" DIA, cups
5 3/4" DIA, saucers
Condition: Excellent overall with one noted exception:
Nine cups and all ten saucers are in excellent condition, free of chips, cracks, or restorations. One cup exhibits a visible hairline crack (as shown), though it remains structurally sound and stable. The gilt detailing is bright and complete, and the hand-painted designs remain crisp, vivid, and unfaded.
Undersides are clean and clearly marked with the Herend blue hallmark and hand-painted pattern numbers. Minor shelf wear is visible on some base rims, consistent with careful use and age.
