Item Description

A rare pair of Herend Hungary hand-painted porcelain two-arm candelabra, executed in the Rothschild Bird (RO) pattern and embellished with 24K gold detailing. Each candelabrum features a baluster stem on a broad circular base, surmounted by twin scrolling candle arms with scalloped bobeches. The forms are richly adorned with Herend’s trademark osier (basketweave) relief and decorated throughout with exquisitely hand-painted birds, butterflies, beetles, and insects in vivid enamels. The central motif on each base portrays a pair of songbirds perched on flowering branches, one often depicted playfully holding a delicate string of pearls. Fine gilt banding and accents highlight the contours of each piece, including the rims of the candleholders, the bobeches, and the base edges. The tops feature scalloped openings and intricate raised ornamentation. Both pieces are marked on the undersides with the Herend Hungary blue shield hallmark and the inscription HANDPAINTED, pattern number 8015/RO. Tops come off to reveal single candlesticks.

Condition: Excellent overall condition. Both candelabra are free of chips, cracks, or repairs. The paintwork is crisp and vibrant, with no loss to enamel or gilding. The detachable upper arms fit securely into the stems, and the interiors of the candleholders remain clean and intact. Minimal shelf wear appears on the undersides, consistent with careful display.
