Mo Dafeng (Chinese, B. 1957) "Harbor Nocturne", Oil On Canvas

Oil on canvas titled, "Harbor Nocturne", has a hypnotic effect when gazed upon. The painting is in oils on canvas. The painting masterfully depicts a nautical harbor scape in Newport, Rhode Island. The harbor scene takes place at twilight, with the setting sun appearing to dance and play off the sea lending the sensational pink hues and subtle tonal shifts in the gentle rolling crests of the harbor. The tall masts of sailboats stand tall over the scene with a singular, American flag in the upper right quadrant appearing to wave in the light breeze. Signed lower right.

Presented handsomely framed with a linen filet and in a carved and gilt finished frame.

About the Artist:
Mo Dafeng (Chinese, b. 1957) was born in Shanghai in 1957 and went on to graduate from the Department of Fine Arts of The People's Liberation Army Art Institute in Beijing, China in 1983. During his studies, Mo Dafeng, had majored and focused on painting in oils, in addition to stage design.

Mo Dafeng is most known for his hypnotic Chinese landscape painting, mostly devoid of figures. Mo Dafeng has an uncanny ability to use color, mainly white, to create what has been described as "lyrical, haunting quality that resulted in a one-man show at the Beijing National Art Theater."

Mo Dafeng, whom had formed a working relationship with The Greenwich Workshop, notably said of his work, "My landscapes are about the re-creation of both the dreams of human beings and the reality of nature. The beauty of nature is not only about nature itself, but also about a remote idea sleeping in the soul. I hope everyone can share these dreams of beauty through my work."
