An exceptional and magnificent fragment from an antique German Meissen hand-painted porcelain tabletop or oversized charger. The fragment had been cracked with a loss with losses to the right side and bottom, with the edges later gilt for an elegant touch elevating the time-loved and historic appeal of the piece.
The plaque features a scalloped central reserve depicting a masterfully rendered scene of two shepherdesses conversing together, holding a dove with a letter. The ladies sit together at the base of a tree along a stone wall topped with a lion statue, surrounded by lambs and a herding dog next to a basket of fruit along a dirt path. The center scene is beautifully outlined with gilt foliate scrolls, echoing decadent gilt flourishes around a wide, pale celadon border with a scalloped trim. The border is further decorated with quatrefoil reserved depicting putti playing among the clouds.
The fragment is mounted to a seafoam teal fabric backing with the support of four metal clips keeping it in place, protected by an acrylic shadow box for sleek, stylish viewing that compliments the color palette of the piece.
