The current work depicts a fabulous scene brimming with Impressionistic characteristics including areas of impasto and the appearance of being painted a la plein air. The scene depicts a bustling outdoor area with tables where people appear to sit and eat, with shops in the background and the coast with beach and tropical trees on the upper right hand quadrant. Signed lower left.
Presented with a liner and in a masterful wood and gesso frame with gilt finish.

About the Artist:
Lucien Adrion was a French painter best known for his Impressionistic depictions of figural landscapes. His subject matter varied from scenes throughout the French countryside to bustling street scenes.
Adrion was born in 1889 and moved to Paris at the age of 18, where he began his artistic career as a fashion illustrator.
Adrion was forced to Berlin at the outbreak of World War I, where he managed to continue his studies under Hermann Struck where he stayed until the end of the war. Following the war, Adrion was allowed to return to Strasbourg, and eventually to Paris where he set up his studio.
Having befriended and worked closely with Chaim Soutine.
Adrion held his first solo exhibition in 1926.

Condition
The canvas is unlined. There are two small punctures. Both on the left hand side of the canvas, one in the lower half and one in the upper half. There is additional wear to the frame with small fractures and wear. Despite losses the painting presents handsomely and could be lined and repaired.
