The current work depicts an arena where a bull fight is taking place. Two matadors can be seen with red cloth, with numerous other figures crowded around, appearing to jump in to protect a bull rider that has been thrown to the ground. Signed lower left.
Presented with a liner and in a masterful wood and gesso frame with gilt finish.

About the Artist:
Lucien Adrion (French, 1889-1953) was a French painter best known for his Impressionistic depictions of figural landscapes. His subject matter varied from scenes throughout the French countryside to bustling street scenes.
Adrion was born in 1889 and moved to Paris at the age of 18, where he began his artistic career as a fashion illustrator.
Adrion was forced to Berlin at the outbreak of World War I, where he managed to continue his studies under Hermann Struck where he stayed until the end of the war. Following the war, Adrion was allowed to return to Strasbourg, and eventually to Paris where he set up his studio where he befriended and worked closely with Chaim Soutine. Adrion held his first solo exhibition in 1926.

Wear including: Loss to the paint along the right edge of the painting seen in the photos, losses to the painted finish to the right hand trim in the center and lower trim. Slight split to the liner but overall in good condition and presents very well. The painting does not show any restoration under black light.
