Frank A. Bicknell (American, 1866-1943) "Old Cider Mill" oil painting on board depicting an impressionist landscape with a calm pond surrounded by trees with lush canopies against a clouded light blue sky. Signed lower left and on the verso on a label from the Lyme Art Association also denoting the title.
Displayed in a finely banded gilt frame with subtle carved borders.

About the Artist:
Frank Alfred Bicknell was an American artist known for landscape painting. Born in Maine to a well connected family, he later moved in with his cousin, artist Albion H. Bicknell in Massachusetts, providing him with a studio space and further connection to creative peers. He studied at the Academie Julian before finding his way to Old Lyme, joining the Old Lyme Art Colony. Bicknell was a member of the National Academy, Salmagundi, Lotos, and National Arts clubs, and worked at Carnegie Mellon University.
