A finely potted Chinese celadon glazed porcelain 'Cong' form vase.
Standing on a circular foot ring, the porcelain 'Cong' is square form with a central circular aperture.
The ‘Cong’ was traditionally made in Neolithic and Bronze Age dynastic periods including the Shang and Zhou periods for ritualistic purposes. Essentially uniting the above with the earthly element.
It was reimagined in a variety of materials in more recent than Neolithic periods but truly reimagined in a variety of archaistic 17th through 19th century Qing dynasty and the Republic periods.
The current vase features moulded, underglaze trigram decoration in relief.
Marked underfoot with an underglaze blue six character
Xuantong (1909-1911) Qing Dynasty reign mark and possibly of the period, or later 20th C.

Condition
Remnants from a brown felt liner that had been affixed to the underfoot still remain and could be removed. A minute nic to one of the upper corners with very minute nics to the glaze including a firing flaw. Additionally, there is earthy residue to the interior. Some wear to the glaze around the trim with a scratch to the upper shoulders around the neck ring. Some scuffs and wear to the glaze is commensurate with some age and handling.
