About the Artist:
Benjamin Williams Leader was born in Worcester to father Edward Leader Williams, a civil engineer and amateur artist. As a child, Leader would accompany his father on artistic outings, sparking his creative interests. Leader attended the Royal Academy Schools in London, where he would exhibit his work every summer, even long after his departure. Much of Leader's work, like the current piece, was inspired by the bucolic landscapes of the Worcester countryside. While his earlier works lean more towards a Pre-Raphaelites and plein air style, later in life he shifted towards a looser, impressionist approach.
