Item Description

Probably Northern Qi. An antique Chinese painted pottery figure of a soldier. Presented standing tall with a cloak draped over his shoulders. Remnants of painted decoration including red to orange to the body with black, noticeable to the face and throughout the lower body. The figure is supported on a painted wood base with central dowel that inserts into the hollow pottery figure for stability.

Probably Norhern Qi (550-577 AD) or later.
(The figure was not T.L. tested and cannot be confirmed as Northern Qi, or Ch'i, however stylistically and in body and current state it can be attributed to Northern Qi, or slightly later.)

Condition

There are significant losses of pigment with an older repair to the figures right foot which has been reaffixed to the body but the break is evident. Possible added paint decoration to the face. There is wear and earthen remnants to the surface commensurate with vast age and having been buried in the earth for some time. Despite the figure presents well.
