Item Description
An antique Qing Dynasty or earlier carved and parcel painted stone foo dog. The foo dog is fiercely and ornately carved and decorated. The foo dog on plinth has remnants of polychrome painted decoration which is flaking off and best evidenced near the mouth and intimidating teeth. The foo dog is designed with its exaggeratedly large and fierce head, with swirled pointed curls, and a curled tail. It stands on its front legs, seated on its coiled hind legs with flared tail. The foo dog can be seen wearing a decorated collar with pendants on the sides and a large one on front, posed seated on a rectangular base.
Dimensions: 2 1/2" L x 4 3/4" D x 6" H
Condition: Exhibiting flaking to the applied polychrome finish to surface, with abrasive and wear to the finish and chipping to the stone base. The painted carved foo dog is likely Qing Dynasty or earlier. Chipping and losses to the stone base around the base and body are commensurate with some age, handling and decorative wear.
