Artist Norma Flanagan in her studio | BRG

"Creating art is a necessary experience in my daily life. It has made me aware of really seeing and feeling everything around me rather than just looking at the world. I have worked in many media and each has afforded me a means of experessing an inner voice which speaks through my images and reflects what I see, hear, and feel about myself, others and the world around me."

-- Norma Flanagan's Artist Statement (excerpt provided by the family of Norma Flanagan)

BRG is pleased to offer this personal estate collection filled with the life's work of renowned female artist, Norma Flanagan. The works in this sale come from her fresh-to-the-market personal art collection.

In her artist statement, Norma explains, "Creating art is a necessary experience in my daily life. About the Artist:

A Greenwich, CT resident for 62 years, Norma was a member of a variety of artist societies, including the Silvermine Guild of Artists located in New Canaan, CT, the Stone Sculpture Society of NY, the National Association of Women Artists, and the New York Society of Women Artists, Norma broke the mold of traditional 1950s housewives and came to fine art in her twenties.

Her diverse-ranging interests and curious mind allowed her to venture into a variety of genres including paintings, jewelry designs, and incredible sculptures. Her artist journey began with ceramics. She moved into stone sculpture and eventually welded sculpture. All the while, she worked with oils and acrylics and created custom jewelry.

Norma earned her masters degree from the University of Illinois. She taught in the Urbana school system in Illinois and eventually taught stone sculpture, ceramics and welded sculpture at the Art Barn in Greenwich, CT.

Her works were exhibited in one-person shows as well as group exhibitions in New York and Connecticut over the years including the Silvermine Guild Gallery of New Canaan, Pindar Gallery of New York, Bell Gallery of Greenwich, Saugatuck Gallery of Westport, Mari Galleries of Westchester, the University of Connecticut, Bridgeport Museum of Science and Industry, Richardson-Vicks Corp, Pitney Bowes Corp., Lincoln Center, American Standard Gallery, New York Society Women Artists, Elaine Benson Gallery, Kohn Pedersen Gallery.

In addition to exhibitions, Norma's works are held in many private and corporate collections including: Marwick & Mitchell, Lehigh University, 3M Company, CT Bank & Trust, Pepsico Corporation, IBM, Xerox Corporation, SUNY Binghampton, General Electric, Chrysler Corporation, and Aetna Life Insurance.

Norma's list of accolades and awards is extensive and hails from such organizations as the Stamford Art Society, Art Society of Old Greenwich, Ferguson Show, Hurlbutt Gallery, Gertrude White Gallery, N.A.W.A., Bruce Museum, National Association of Women Artists.
