Solve Your Design "Blahs" with Pillows

It would be nice if we could switch out our sofas and lounge chairs as soon as boredom sets in or our design styles change. Although some people are able to change their decor regularly, most of us have to stick with what we have. So how do you tszuj your existing design with ease and affordability?

Who knew the answer to your home design "blahs" could be solved by the simple pillow, or rather, a bunch of pillows!

Throw pillows and decorative accent pillows are perhaps the quickest and most affordable way to truly change the feel of any room. The shear variety of sizes, colors, patterns, and textures that are available these days seems endless. Plus, with a seemingly infinite number of outlets to find pillows (online, discounters, consignment centers, DIY projects, etc.) options abound.

So what's a person to do? Here are some quick and helpful tips:

Mix it up:

Use different colors, textures, and sizes. Don't be afraid to play with a variety of patterns and textures. As long as you have one "base" color that pulls your combination together. Take a look at these examples and see how they create a new, fresh look.

Give it the floor

Who says pillows only belong on furniture? Sometimes, strategically-placed pillows grouped on the floor can add a lot of visual interest to a room. Consider it floor "art."

The Odds Have It

Follow the "Rule of Three" (or five or seven or even nine). A commonly held design dogma essentially states that odd numbered groupings are much more interesting to the eye than those with even numbered groupings. Whenever possible, keep it odd. Threes, fives, or sevens.

Style a Basket or Shelf

Use a basket or shelf to display colorful, fun, and decorative pillows. This will not only create a pretty vignette, but keep the pillows handy whenever you need to pull a few out.
