Happy 2018! At BRG, we are incredibly thankful for a wonderful 2017 business year and look forward to yet another year of growth and success (with all our thanks to our loyal customers). We love serving our customers as the best decorating resource in Fairfield County (if you'll allow us to "toot our own horn") ... or dare we say, New England.

With this in mind, it is now time for us to delve into the trends for 2018 and ways for you to find pieces in BRG's vast selection of merchandise that might help you to update your home by staying on trend with fresh pieces at affordable pieces.

GO AUBERGINE FOR 2018!

And by that, we mean shades of purple. Pantone's color of the year for 2018 is technically "Ultra Violet," (Pantone 18-3838), due to its drama and complexity. According to Pantone, Ultra Violet "symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets."

Likewise, according to House Beautiful, a variety of shades of Lavender and Lilac are predicted to be the go-to color for designers for 2018. Much less daring than Ultra-Violet, lavender shades lend themselves to deeper shades that are still soft and versatile. So we dare you to go aubergine for 2018.

For larger statement pieces (above), we love this contemporary upholstered sofa in a subtle gray/purple tweed fabric juxtaposed by a large, bright contemporary canoe scene oil painting with rich purple, gold, and green tones. Tie it all together with a dramatic purple Murano glass style chandelier and an oversized 46" sculptural aubergine vase, and you'll have a living room that wows all your guests.

Alternatively, consider these smaller, but no less impactful chairs and pieces of art (below). Whether you're in the market for some timeless, but fun club chairs (like these wonderful custom upholstered lavender club chairs with white piping) or this dramatic retro aubergine vinyl wingback chair with nailhead trim, choosing fun pieces for a neutral room is easy if you choose several pieces that have a similar color that ties it to the room. Choose a fun print, poster, or painting to continue that color scheme in an interesting way.

Finally, accessories (or smalls) can make your purple color scheme sing. Using smaller decorative touches in key places helps to create visual balance and tie your pops of color to the rest of your room. Consider displaying a collection of six antique Wedgewood low bowls on a shelf along with a vintage lavender vase adorned with a gold chain tassel and a beautiful pair of diminutive jardiniere cabinet vases (below) or a small oil on paper drawing with gradiating tones of purple.

Other Trends for 2018

GEOMETRICS ARE BACK, BABY!

From circles to triangles and squares, influences from the mid-century modern movement are still in play. This year, according to some designers, bold and graphic geometric shapes are going to play a strong role in design. At BRG, options for integrating geometrics into your decor are virtually limitless. From upholstered benches or throw pillows with geo-shape patterns to artwork, lighting, decorative smalls and furniture with funky circles, hexagons, and oblong designs, BRG makes it easy to stay on trend.

VELVET (DARE WE ADD VELOUR?) VA-VA-VOOM!

Only time will tell how long this trend will stick around, but there are still ways to integrate velvet (or any derivative of) in a fresh, fun way without completely jumping into the deep end of the pool. Perhaps a selection of dramatic velvet pillows or a comfy side chair in soft, neutral shades that will truly stand the test of time. Here are some of our inventory favorites with the luxurious textile...

BEST IN BRASS!

We've said it before, brass is back and, we think, it's going to stay. For almost two decades, brushed silvers and chromes where the metal finishes of choice leaving brass in the dust. But we've seen a resurrection, of sorts, of interest in brass. Does this mean you should change out every fixture in your home and replace them with brass? Of course not. It is the mixing of metal finishes that creates a more interesting vibe and by selecting a few strategic pieces to switch out (for example a dramatic lamp or piece of art), you will be able to achieve a designer-styled look for your home at an economical price-tag.
