Exploring Cameron's Design Philosophy
In a candid Q&A session, Cameron offers insights into her design journey and philosophy:
How did you become interested in estate sales and online auctions?
From a young age, I was surrounded by vintage and antiques because of my grandparents and their collections. I guess I've always been an old soul, and I also enjoy the thrill of the hunt.
How do you describe your design style or aesthetic?
I would describe my style as modern traditional, and maybe transitional. I love lines and pieces that are grounded in the traditional aesthetic, but then I love to mix other styles and periods in and always, always with a healthy dose of color and pattern.
What are some things you always find yourself bidding upon in online auctions?
I can't quit a good mirror, chairs, and upholstered pieces with good lines (I keep my upholsterer on speed dial), and I've always got my eyes peeled for awesome art.
What's your absolute favorite item ever purchased at an estate sale or online auction?
I have a pair of vintage foo dogs that I found almost 20 years ago before I even knew of their popularity and history. I just saw them and loved them and still love them to this day.
Share a story about when you regretted not purchasing an item you saw at an estate sale – that missed opportunity that still lingers in your mind?
WHERE DO I START?! I actually started having so much regret over things that I missed out that I started purchasing pieces even when I didn't have an immediate personal or client need for them. That's how I started selling a lot of vintage pieces because we started running out of space. I can't pass up a beautiful piece and a good bargain ever.
Any tips or advice for online auction or estate sale newbies?
You'll never regret buying pieces that can be versatile - a handsome wood chest, for example, could go in an entry, living room, or bedroom. You also have to be dedicated to the hunt. Shop often and always check out different auctions and estate sales - you never know what gems you might miss if you don't!
