Amy Kummer has been interested in design and interior decoration since she was a child. She attributes this to the influence of her family, especially her mother and grandmother, who loved beautiful things. They taught her to appreciate cherished pieces for their looks, as well as their meaning.
|
Amy brings this same reverence and respect for classic design styles to all her projects. As a result, her clients feel her passion for making their homes beautiful.
|
Since founding her business in 2013, Amy has developed an affinity and mastery for fresh traditional design aesthetics. Amy’s talent for choosing fabrics helps her designs to come together effortlessly which creates classic, timeless looks in the homes she styles.
|
She lives with her husband Brett, two children, Preston and Caroline, and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. In her spare time, Amy enjoys shopping local antique stores, traveling, and spending time with her family.

How would you describe your personal aesthetic or style?
My style is fresh and traditional, with an unparalleled commitment to elegance and femininity. My favorite design elements are classic chinoiserie fabrics and wallcoverings, traditional bullion fringe, pleated lampshades, Asian porcelain, and rattan — all mixed with more modern elements like lucite and brass. Mixing the old and the new is a hallmark of my style and what makes a room feel interesting and fresh.

What is your favorite item ever purchased through an estate sale or online auction?
I adore finding things at online auctions or estate sales near me, because of the uniqueness of the items and the stories they could tell. My favorite find has to be my Baker Historic Charleston Collection mahogany dining table. This is a table that we gather around with guests, which is one of life's greatest pleasures.

Think of all the holiday conversations and meals shared around that table, year after year. There's just something special about an old piece.

Amy’s ‘Get the Look’ Curation
In this week’s edition of Complementary. Guest Curations., we challenged Amy to select current online auctions’ items to help you achieve a similarly fresh and traditional look for your home. And here are her favorites:
|
Styling the Dining Room
Starting with a beautiful solid mahogany sideboard — a classic furniture staple providing extra storage for formal and special occasion dishes, flatware, and linens you might usually need in a dining room.
It also can be used for placing dinner plates or serving trays of food. It is usually decorated with symmetrical arrays of candles, lamps, and artwork when not in serving mode.
In this case, Amy chooses to display a collection of three pretty Chinese celadon plates, a pair of fabulous Vietnamese porcelain foo dogs, and an antique Chinese famille rose medallion porcelain punch bowl.
And of course, this vignette isn’t complete without a really gorgeous mirror. In this case, Amy’s choice is available in a current online auction. It’s an antique mirror with griffins.

Styling the Home Office
Adding flair to your home office decor is the key to inspire creativity and productivity. For her side table choice, Amy suggests a vintage pair of Regency style end mahogany tables or the 19th Century hexagon caned and tortoise bamboo table. A statement piece of art featuring many bold colors follows with Laura Davis on acrylic canvas painting of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Last, but not least, if you want to style a bookshelf (or bookshelves) beyond books, Amy suggests two decorative accessory options: a Fenton Vaseline topaz opalescent hobnail cake stand and a fabulous vintage French crystal jewelry box.
