Supporting Maria and Her Family: A Personal Battle Against ALS
BRG Happenings | PUBLISHED 10.17.24 | Admin

We believe in the power of community. For years, many of our customers and clients have come to know Maria, our former Office Manager in Connecticut. Maria is more than just a colleague. She is a member of the Black Rock Galleries family and a friend to many.
Maria’s family received a difficult blow almost four years ago when her husband was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), a progressive and devastating disease with no known cure. ALS is also commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Since then, Maria stepped back from her full-time role as our office manager, but continues to work with us part-time in another capacity while she cares full-time for her husband and their son.
Despite this, many of our customers and clients still ask about Maria. Your care means the world to her and all of us at BRG. Now, we have an opportunity to come together and continue to support Maria in her journey.
Maria is raising funds for the ALS United Connecticut fund, a cause close to her heart as her family battles the effects of this disease. We invite you to join us in supporting this important cause.
If you wish to help, you may contribute directly through Maria's ALS United Connecticut fundraising page here: Donate to ALS United Connecticut Fund.
Every donation helps bring us all one step closer to finding a cure for ALS and providing support to families like Maria's. Thank you for standing with us, and with Maria, in this fight.

What is ALS?
ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. As these motor neurons deteriorate, the brain loses the ability to control muscle movement, leading to muscle weakness, difficulty speaking, swallowing, and eventually, breathing. While the disease progresses at different rates for each individual, it is always fatal, with most people living 2 to 5 years after diagnosis. Currently, there is no cure for ALS, but research and support services are working to improve the lives of those affected.
