Item Description
Original Otto Zenke cockfighting chair. With a horseshoe chair rail ato a tapering tufted back that leads into a shaped seat. Raised on two front straight legs and two back raking. Upholstered in original orange textile with geometric pattern with nailhead trim accenting. Original horsehair fill.
Overall good condition with expected signs of use including some scattered soiling and thread pulls. Some wear along corners of chair rail. A unique chair with incredible style!
Measures 28 1/2" h. x 29 1/2" w. x 22" d.
Provenance: This chair was one of a pair purchased from the J. Spencer Love Estate (founder of Burlington Industries) Zenke sold this chair in the 1970s to Love for $3,600. Zenke did work for the J. Spencer Love Family in Greensboro for years. Mr. & Mrs. Love purchased the pair of chairs from Otto and they were covered in the fabric which is on the surviving chair now. J. Spencer Love was the head of Burlington Industries. Chair was purchased by the consignor directly from their successor decorator in later years upon the liquidation of their estate Mr. Zenke's assistant Mrs. Freeman also verified the relationship to Mr Zenke at time or purchase.
