Black Rock Galleries is delighted to announce the addition of our new gallery sales manager, Roger Lebert. Roger is a breath of fresh air to the antique center with his love of art and a lifetime of experience in design.
Born in NYC and the son of a Madmen-era architect, Roger has been surrounded by design since birth. He studied interior design at Fairfield University and studied stone carving while an apprentice Journeyman at one of the last bronze foundries in Connecticut. Despite his busy career and raising a beautiful family, he has always considered himself a sculptor.
Roger draws his influence from unexpected places. He shares, “Rock promoter, Bill Graham, was famous for putting together seemingly incompatible acts to create unique shows that people went nuts for. He would combine a headlining rock band with with a Mississippi blues legend and a Ravi Shankar playing Indian sitar; the results were spectacular. I learned that things can be so much more interesting when mixing seemingly disparate elements to create something much more interesting and unique.”
While working for Michael Friedman, owner of Friedman Gallery and Artafax for over 10 years, Roger applied his “mix it up” philosophy and was allowed to stretch his concepts of art, modern design, folk art and European design concepts to create and sell. “Design freedom was the order of the day and I took full advantage”, says Roger.
Roger’s personal design philosophy is to “MIX IT UP! Add color, stop being timid, buy what you love and listen to your inner drummer. Your first instinct is always right.”
Roger also considers himself a store builder, having set up and organized countless shows, booths, and brick and mortar shops. He has most recently thrown his hat into the e-commerce store arena, setting up vignettes for shoots and working with the team on items to highlight.
Roger has worked for many notable stores in the area including Artafax, Lillian August, Habitat for Humanity Re-store and Montage. He continues his lifetime love of design with Black Rock Galleries and we couldn’t be happier!
